Who do you use? Can you recommend a good hosting company?

All I know is... there are some pretty shocking companies out there. I have some clients that get themselves set up with a cheap provider and believe me you get what you pay for. I use the following;

www.Iserve.co.nz (reasonable as I host more than one)
www.simplehosting.co.nz (very reasonble pricing)

I haven't had any issues with either of these. There are so many though and I'm sure most offer a great service.

As Debra said, there are many options - and much depends on your needs. Personally I prefer to stay in NZ - but lots of others prefer cheap international. You also have to choose between Windows-based hosts and Linux-based hosts. Generally I prefer the latter - but you may prefer the former.

So I have chosen Kiwi Web Hosting (which happens to be based in WN - but I think is possibly part of a larger group).

Good luck.

We ie Apex Internet, actually offer a domain and web hosting service. If you are keen, let me know and we can discuss further. We are, of course, a good hosting company!

Ric Thorpe. He is away in England for 3 weeks, but he is fantastic. Contact him on 027 322 5064. Best thing is he doesn't lock you in like some companies do and he is really easy to deal with.

Hi there - been to Apex's site and now have two questions - one of which needn't be answered as it's more a matter of curiosity than anything else.

First, you web-site doesn't mention anything to do with web-hosting - that I can see. Is that only a service for SEO clients, ot will you take anybody?

Second, the company is in New Plymouth - and you're in CH. Just wondering how you find this - and how the company finds it? As I'm in the process of going virtual with my business, I just thought it would be good to hear about this aspect.

Bluehost.com all the way. It is recommended by many internet marketers and virtual assistants all over the world. Godaddy.com is another good one. Good pricing and you can install Wordpress blogs easily. Bluehost includes a free domain name registration and you can have lots of subdomains.

For a co.nz address I use registerdirect, but only for the registration, not for the hosting.

Hi Phil

Yes, we definitely offer the hosting service to anyone. We have a retail brand www.limelightonline.co.nz where all our services are promoted including domain registration and hosting.

It actually works quite well with me being in Christchurch. The rest of the team and I are always emailing or Skyping so I do actually feel part of everything. It has been suggested that we should get a web cam in each office although I am not so keen on that idea. The great thing about offering online services is that you can be anywhere to do it!

Yes, definitely it does depend on your needs. If your target market for example, is New Zealand then it is best to host here, for Search Engine ranking reasons. However, if your target market is the UK then you should host over there (and preferably have a .co.uk domain name but that's another topic altogether!).

I've always thought that too - but it couldn't apply to my businness (accounting and business support). But in fact I've been trialling "virtual" accounting - and if we place certain limits on it, then use Skype and some two-way comms software it appears we too can offer services anywhere. Takes a bit of getting the mind around, and some stuff still requires mail - but I mail local clients too. It's really quite exciting - suddenly having NZ as a target instead of just my area.

I own 50+ NZ domains all but a handful are on the first SERP. They are all .co.nz domains but are hosted overseas. Most sites acheived their first page ranking within a fortnight of being created some as little as a few days.

In my experience Domains4Less.co.nz have the best priced domains. In fact I buy them on a Tuesday when they're only $20.

Thanks, Nic, for the domain link. That looks good.

I have hosting with openhost in Auckland. I have found them to be very good, with easy to reach by phone support. They are actual people as well!!!

Just my two cents.
